Starting in Iquitos, you will travel by land and river into the heart of the reserve, staying in basic jungle camps and navigating remote waterways by motorboat and canoe. Over three days, you will experience sunrise and night excursions, spot pink and grey river dolphins, observe caimans, monkeys, capybaras, turtles, birds, and possibly anacondas, and walk through pristine rainforest with towering trees.

This program is flexible and adaptive, allowing guides to tailor activities based on wildlife conditions, participant interests, and river levels—offering a genuine, raw Amazon experience.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Entry into Pacaya Samiria & Night Walk

Early Morning – Departure from Iquitos
Travel by private vehicle to Nauta (approx. 1.5 hours).

Morning – Marañón River Navigation
Board a motorboat and navigate the Marañón River for approximately 3.5 hours, entering the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.

Arrival at Yana Yacu–Pucate Control Post
Registration and continuation toward the Buenos Aires community.

Midday – Base Camp Setup & Lunch
Settle into the base camp (local house/camp). Lunch prepared with fresh local ingredients.

Afternoon – Huaylla Lagoon Excursion
Short navigation (25 minutes) to Huaylla Lagoon. Observe herons, camungos, dolphins (pink and grey), and enjoy the Amazon sunset.

Night – Nocturnal Walk
Guided walk to observe tarantulas, frogs, insects, and listen to the sounds of nocturnal wildlife.

Overnight – Jungle Camp

Day 2 – Sunrise, Deep Navigation & Night Safari

Early navigation to observe birds, dolphins, and early-morning wildlife activity.

Breakfast at Camp

Morning to Afternoon – Deep River Navigation to Iricahua
Navigate approximately 3 hours to Iricahua, reaching a more remote sector of the reserve. Jungle walk to explore giant trees and search for wildlife.

Afternoon – Camp Setup & Rest

Night – Nocturnal River Safari
Boat excursion to spot:

  • Caimans of different sizes

  • Turtles

  • Monkeys and rodents such as capybaras (ronsocos)

  • Possible anaconda sightings

Overnight – Jungle Camp

Day 3 – Canoe Sunrise, Fishing & Return

Early Morning – Canoe Sunrise Tour
Navigate quietly by canoe through narrow waterways for birdwatching and wildlife observation.

Traditional Fishing Activity
Catch piranhas and other fish using local techniques.

Breakfast at Camp

Late Morning – Return Navigation
Observe birds and monkeys along the riverbanks during the return journey.

Midday – Lunch at Base Camp

2:00 PM – Return to Nauta & Transfer to Iquitos
Arrive in Iquitos around 6:30 PM (or earlier depending on flight schedules).
Drop-off at hotel or airport.
